SACRIFICE YOURSELVES
Hebrews 13:13-25

I. SACRIFICE OURSELVES IN PRAISE–HEBREWS 13:15
A. Praise is through Christ–13:15a.
i. Without Christ we would not be able to worship acceptably.
a. Ephesians 2:12-17–He broke the barrier down.
b. John 4:23-24–He allows us to worship in spirit and truth.
ii. 1 Corinthians 14:37 (note context)–His law for His worship.
B. Praise should be continual.
i. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18–note the continual nature of praise.
ii. Hebrews 10:24-26–praise should not be neglected.
C. Praise should be spiritual.
i. “The fruit of our lips”
ii. Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16
iii. We are a spiritual kingdom and priesthood–Matt. 27:11; Jn 18:36
iv. Therefore, our praise is spiritual–Rev. 1:6; 1:9

II. SACRIFICE OURSELVES IN SERVICE–HEBREWS 13:16
A. Things not to forget:
i. to do good
ii.. to share
iii. Galatians 6:10
iv. 2 Corinthians 9:13
v. Luke 19:11-27
B. With such sacrifices God is well pleased.
i. Micah 1:6-8
ii. Amos 3:10

III. SACRIFICE OURSELVES IN SUBMISSION–HEBREWS 13:17-25
A. Submission to God’s leaders–Hebrews 13:17
i. Leaders fill vital need–Titus 1:5
ii. Leaders are respected by earning respect in service–1 Thess. 2:8-12
B. Submission to God’s providence through prayer–Hebrews 13:18-19
i. Good Christians desire and depend on the prayers of others–13:18.
ii. God’s good providence results in peace for those who trust.
iii. Also note that good leaders ask for help.
C. Submission to our pursuit of perfection–Hebrews 13:20-21
i. God’s plan involves God’s people striving to carry out His purpose.
ii. God’s people are motivated, guided, and empowered by Christ.
iii God’s purpose is to glorify Himself and His people by service.
D. Submission to the preaching of God’s Word–Hebrews 13:22
i. This masterpiece of literature closes with the gracious appeal to listen.
ii. The preacher here closes with an appeal for action after encouragement.
