It took 108 years, but the Cubs have finally won the World Series! How great it is for those loyal fans who stuck it out this whole time. That is a great example of perseverance for all of us.

The word “persevere” is defined by Webster’s Dictionary as, “continue in a course of action even in the face of difficulty or with little or no prospect of success.”

1 Chronicles 16:11 says, “Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!” Jesus’ parable of the sower and the soils in Mark 4 displays perseverance in the good soil. However, the hearts represented by the path, the rocky soil, and the thorny soil  did not persevere. Those hearts turned from the Lord.

In 1 Corinthians 15:1-2 Paul stressed the importance of perseverance in the faith: “Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.”

Let us remember to persevere. Hold on. Never give up. Success may be waiting tomorrow.

“For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end” (Hebrews 3:14).
