“But we do see Jesus–made lower than the angels for a short time so that by God’s grace he might taste death for everyone–crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death” (Hebrews 2:9).

Jesus is fully divine. We know more about the nature of God because we see Jesus. We also can know what mankind is supposed to be like by looking at Jesus. As we look at Jesus’ humanity we see that he exists as the perfect man for God.

JESUS’ DEMONSTRATED PERFECT HUMANITY IN HOLINESS

God’s goal for humanity is to be holy (1 Peter 1:5). Humanity has failed at holiness (Romans 6:23). In order for us to have a clear picture of what a holy person looks like, then we must observe Jesus. Jesus is “the one who did not know sin” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

JESUS DEMONSTRATED PERFECT HUMANITY IN HIS DUTY TO THE FATHER

We try to put ourselves above God. We get our priorities out of order. But Jesus perfectly understood and perfectly carried out his responsibilies to the Father. One of the first recorded sayings of Jesus was, “How is it that ye sought me? knew ye not that I must be in my Father’s house?” (Luke 2:49 ASV).  At the end of his life on earth he prayed, “Your will be done” (Matthew 26:42).

JESUS DEMONSTRATED PERFECT HUMANITY IN HIS RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS

Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) described the perfect attitudes and actions for perfect relationships. The record of Jesus’ life is the exempification of this sermon. Jesus’ perfect attitudes, perfect intentions, perfect actions, and perfect care.

JESUS DEMONSTRATED PERFECT HUMANITY IN HIS SERVICE TO OTHERS

Jesus humbled himself (Philippians 2:5-11) to serve as a man. He coninued to live humbly as a servant. “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45).

JESUS DEMONSTRATED PERFECT HUMANITY IN HIS WORSHIP

It is odd for us to consider this particular feature of Jesus’ life, but Jesus (God incarnate) did worship the Father while on earth. In Matthew 26:30 the Bible records how that Jesus joined in worship through the singing of a hymn before going to the Mount of Olives (Matthew 26:30). Hebrews 2:12 described Jesus as singing in the midst of the congregation to the Father. Romans 15:7-12 pictured Jesus singing praises to God the Father with the church (specifically the Gentiles).

FINALLY,

Jesus is our perfect example of all things good. Let us follow him.
