.0000000001%

Despite the coronavirus journey we have been drafted into, we have been blessed. “Count your blessings. Name them one by one.” God has continued to work in and through the coronavirus to accomplish his purposes. We probably haven’t seen .00001% of what God has already accomplished and probably will not see .0000000001% of what God will accomplish through this global pandemic. Christians, we still trust God’s great providence. Our God is in the heavens and does as he pleases (Ps. 115:3). Our God “causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose” (Rom. 8:28).

WHY DO WE SEE EVIL?

Why do we still see bad or evil things around us? Perhaps, it would helpful for us to remember the only way we can recognize “evil” or “bad” things is by previously knowing what “good” is. “The knowledge of God is not the cause of evil; but is the cause of the good whereby evil is known.” God’s goodness is the reason we exist and aligning ourselves with God’s goodness is the only way to live our best life. “God, however, in His use of us, has reference to His own goodness. For it is because He is good we exist; and so far as we truly exist we are good.”

Since we struggle with evil around us, we still yet wonder if God’s good will is always fulfilled. In our stubborn pursuit of the creation rather than the Creator, we (all humanity) rebel against God. This is not according to God’s will (1 Tim. 2:4). Yet, all things work together for good (Rom. 8:28). How can God allow bad things to happen and still work his will? Paul described just such a situation in Romans 8:32 when he wrote, “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Hm freely give us all things?” Even when sinful men rejected, slandered, beat, spat upon, and crucified the eternal Son, God brought good—the greatest act ever accomplished—from that evil.

HOW CAN WE SEE GOOD?

The only way we can see good is to see God. “No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten God, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him” (Jn. 1:18). When we look at Jesus, we see the true God revealed fully.  Please remember God’s goodness and the good things God continues to do today and every day. “If God is for us, who is against us?” (Rom. 8:31).
