Where did I come from? Where did the universe originate? What is right?
The answers to these questions are found in God. The purpose of this lesson is to examine the evidence for the existence of God and the reasons for believing the Bible is God’s Word.

The design of the universe is evidence for the existence of God–Psalm 19:1-6. Isn’t God the grand “watchmaker?”
The existence of the universe is evidence for the existence of God–Hebrews 3:3-4. Can something come from nothing?
The design of the human body is evidence for the existence of God–Psalm 139:13-16. Is it more likely that nothing grew into you or that God set the laws of nature in place?
The existence of morals across time and culture is evidence for the existence of God–Romans 2:15. How could a lump of cells and matter ever reach the conclusion that some actions are right and others are wrong? or that some things are fair and other things unfair.

If we can prove that the Bible is the true word of the true God, then we can know that the Bible is God’s word and that the God of the Bible is the true God of all the earth.
The Bible is perfect–Psalm 19:7-11
The Bible’s supernatural nature is seen best in fulfilled prophecy–Isaiah 42:21-24.
Isaiah 45:1-5 mentions Cyrus by name 150 years before he was born. The prophecy was fulfilled in Ezra 1:1.
Jeremiah 25:8-14 records God’s prophecy that Jerusalem would be taken into captivity for 70 years. This captivity began around 586 and was completed in 516 and is recorded in 2 Chronicles 36:22-23.
The prophecies concerning Jesus are the most important:
He was born of a virgin–Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:22-23.
He was born in Bethlehem–Micah 5:2; Matthew 2:1.
He was preceded by a messenger–Malachi 3:1; Matthew 11:9-11.
His crucifixion was best described in Isaiah 53 and Psalm 22 hundreds of years before his crucifixion which is recorded in Matthew 27 ff; Mark 15; Luke 23; and John 19.
Peter W. Stoner and Robert C. Newman wrote a book entitled Science Speaks. The book was based on the science of probability and vouched for by the American Scientific Affiliation. It set out the odds of any one man in all of history fulfilling even only eight of the 60 major prophecies (and 270 ramifications) fulfilled by the life of Christ. The probability that Jesus of Nazareth could have fulfilled even eight such prophecies would be only 1 in 1017. That’s 1 in 100, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000. Stoner claims that that many silver dollars would be enough to cover the face of the entire state of Texas two feet deep. Now I’ve been to Texas. I’ve driven for days to get across Texas. Texas is a very big state. Who in his right mind would suppose that a blindfolded man, heading out of Dallas by foot in any direction, would be able, on his very first attempt, to pick up one specifically marked silver dollar out of 100, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000?

In light of the evidence, the most probable conclusion of the data is that there is a God and the God of the Bible is that God.

How does that change your life?
How does that affect your future?
How does the existence of God change your behavior toward others?
How does the existence of the Bible, God’s Word, influence your life now and how will the Bible influence your life in the future?
